TRAVEL NOTES

Some people have asked for information on travel itineraries and recommendations for lodging and attractions. I can only share my experiences and the notes from friends but here are my travel notes from places I have been and hope to visit. I will continue to update!

Japan Travel Notes

Did 1 week trip to Japan and visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Liked all but Kyoto is a favorite.

Tokyo

Marunouchi Hotel Tokyo

1-6-3 Marunouchi, Chiyoda Ku, Tokyo Station, Tokyo, Japan 1000005

Hotel was very nice. Hotel was right near Tokyo Station and made it really easy to get around. We spent more time exploring Shibuyo area so I may look at other areas next time I go.

Kyoto

Hotel Gran Ms. Kyoto
410-3, Shimo Maruya-cho, Sanjyo agaru, Kawaramachi dori, Nakagyo-ku, Central Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan 604-8006

Hotel was good and location was good as well. Close to many things and easy area to navigate. I would stay at the hotel and in similar location again.

The bike tour in Kyoto was excellent. Would highly recommend.

This gyoza bar is amazing. Tiny little place where 2 people cook right in front of you. You may have to wait but it is well worth it. Second place is a cute little wine bar with the nicest sommelier.

Osaka

APA Hotel Namba-Shinsaibashi

2-7-12,Nishi-Shinsaibashi,Chuo-ku, Namba, Osaka, Japan 542-0086

I didn't realize that APA hotels were budget. This was tiny room and not ideal. We got a non-smoking room but it smelled like smoke. We were also told that we could either be on a floor with heating or cooling because rooms are not individually controlled. I really liked the Namba area. I would stay in the area again, not at this hotel though.

NOTES:
For one week, we used credit cards a lot but still needed cash. Between two of us we used $600 USD in cash converted to yen. We could have used a little more.

There are many travel cards that you can get to make traveling on trains easier. Need to understand where you will go and what may be needed.

Here are places to visit from local Japan contact.

A few recommendation where to go for entertainment, food & drinks. Let me know if you need help to make reservation

1) Jomon roppongi, kushiyaki place. I brought Wiebe and Duncan before and they loved it. Wiebe even went back there when he was with his family.
