TRAVEL NOTES

Some people have asked for information on travel itineraries and recommendations for lodging and attractions. I can only share my experiences and the notes from friends but here are my travel notes from places I have been and hope to visit. I will continue to update!

Vietnam Travel Notes

I personally visited Da Nang and Hoi An.

Da Nang is spread out so you need taxi to get around and has gorgeous beaches. I would recommend Da Nang for beach resort getaway with maybe a day trip to Marble Mountain.

Hoi An is an adorable cultural city. I would recommend Hoi An for a great cultural get away with excellent food. Hoi An was more walkable without need for a car to get around.

Resorts in Da Nang that are recommended by friends: Pullman and Intercontinental. But there are many more.

We stayed at King's Finger Hotel which was a great efficient hotel in Da Nang within walking distance of the beach and a good home base for tours in Da Nang and Hoi An.

We hired a private driver and tour guide for tours of Da Nang and Hoi An. I highly recommend Man and his small team of tour guides. They were the most kind, generous, and knowledgeable tour guides that I have had. They did not push you into tourist traps or commercial areas. They took such good care of us throughout entire trip.

I highly recommend visiting the vegetable village where we had an amazing meal with fresh herbs and vegetables (meal was not vegetarian). We ate at Tra Que Water Wheel. Tour guide brought us here.

If I was to re-do the trip I would spend 1-2 nights in Hoi An and then move to a beach reort in Da Nang for 1-2 nights.

Recommendations for other Vietnam cities from my friends:

Hanoi
- check out free student tours
- check out food tours
- Hanoi to Halong Bay Cruise (check out Alova Cruises and Halong Bay Junk)
